The Dropper Loop

This loop can be tied anywhere along the length of line for the attachment of a hook or leader. Especially useful for bottom bashing paternoster style rigs.

Step1

Make a generous loop in your line where the dropper is to be tied, then pull out a section of the loop so that it crosses over  the main line at one side forming a second smaller loop.

Step2

Begin twisting the smaller loop, alternating the twisting and holding between hands.

Step 3

Make 4 complete twists (8 half twists) when using monofilament and six complete twists (12 half twists) when using gelspun lines. Then thread the larger loop through the smaller loop which you have been twisting.

Step 4

Put the larger loop around  a peg or the like and gently tension the line both sides of the knot until it pulls up nicely. Paticular care needs to be taken with this step when using gelspun or the line can be sheared off at either side of the knot

Step 5

The finished loop is neat and of adequate strength for the majority of fishing situations.
