Reel Maintenance tips

Your Pflueger reel is designed to provide years of reliable performance when properly maintained and lubricated. It should be cleaned and lubricated after each use. Rinse the reel under a light mist of warm water. This will rinse away dirt and break down any salt residue. Dry the reel with a soft cloth and spray lightly with a water displacement lubricant or synthetic protectant. Leave the reel for a few minutes and then wipe down with a clean dry soft cloth. Store reel in a clean, dry area out of direct sunlight and dust.

When lubricating the line roller shaft, handle knob shaft, and moving parts of the bail, light machine oil should be used. Never use oil on the inside gearing of the reel. Instead, only quality reel grease should be used to lubricate internal moving parts such as gearing and bearings.
To ensure the drag remains smooth and reliable a light coat of reel grease should periodically be applied to drag washers. Excess grease and oil may hinder the reel’s functionality.

Pflueger recommends that your reel is professionally cleaned and lubricated at least once a year by Pflueger’s professional service team.
